Hello PFA and Retiree’s, Retired Poudre Fire Authority Company Officer Art Eckdahl Passed away October 23rd 2017. Art was a career firefighter at PFA for 25 years, then moving on to become a Fire Inspector with Vista Fire Department in  Vista Ca. where he retired again.   Art was one of the founding board members that started IAFF local 1945.

They had to knock down the flames, which started to peek out of the second-story windows. One group propelled themselves up a ladder truck and onto the roof, clutching chainsaws.

At 07:24 a.m. on Friday, June 22nd Local 2086 and 2164 members responded to a traffic collision on Wildcat Reserve Parkway and Spearwood Drive in Highlands Ranch. 911 callers reported a semi rollover with visible smoke and people possibly trapped. When members arrived they found a damaged SUV, a cement truck on its side and a light pole down with exposed electrical wires.

TPT is hosting The Wall That Heals (http://www.vvmf.org/twth) from June 21-24 at the State Capitol in St. Paul, MN. The Wall That Heals is a traveling ¾ replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC and will visit 38 cities this year. We need help to take it down on Sunday, June 24 starting at 3pm. We are in need of able-bodied persons able to bend and lift.

History of Employer Contributions Several facts of life exist in the insurance industry and certainly our Fund is no exception.  Medical trend, the cost of providing/receiving medical care rises much quicker than any other inflationary indicator. The annual average medical trend for our insurance Fund over the last 14 years was 9.64%.

Financial Update As we approach the halfway mark for the year the Fund is on track to perform as projected.  If everything stays on course we can expect to add slightly to our growing reserves.  Reserves are used to smooth out the rough times when claims spike in order to keep premiums and benefits steady.

At 12:23 p.m. on Sunday, June 17th Local 2086 members responded to several reports of a small brush fire in the open space northeast of Northridge Elementary School in Highlands Ranch. First arriving Brush 18 found a quarter acre grass fire moving at a slow to moderate rate of spread uphill and toward homes on Fox Hunt Circle.
EMS Open House

We want to thank everyone for a successful 2018 EMS Open House. The event took place June 16th at Station 63 and hundreds of attendees learned how SMFR and our various community partners keep us safe. Attendees also enjoyed numerous demonstrations from Arapahoe County Sheriff’s K9 units, Bomb Squad, and Local 2164 members ended the day with an extrication demo.

At 3:54 p.m. on Friday, June 15th Local 2164 members responded to a residential structure fire at 19061 E. Powers Place in Centennial. First arriving Engine 63 found smoke showing from the attached garage and advanced an attack line inside.
Pagosa Way Structure Fire

At 12:55 p.m. on Friday, June 15th Local 2164 members responded to a residential structure fire at 5817 S. Pagosa Way in Centennial. Engine 62 reported smoke in the air while responding and upon arrival they found flames visible from 1st and 2nd floors extending into the eaves. Attack lines were advanced inside to each level and the fire was quickly controlled.

Smoke Detectors

Today the members walked the 1100 block of Remington and White streets handing out fire prevention literature and installing smoke detectors. Thursday the 7th of June, the department and multiple surrounding companies operated at a 3 alarm fire at 1118 Remington Street.

According to the OAPFF, they are experiencing problems with non-members acquiring our OAPFF/IAFF license plates. The OAPFF is currently working on a more secure process for our members to obtain the OAPFF license plate, in the interim, requests for the documents that are required to obtain the Professional Firefighter license plate should be made through the Local President. We hope the members understand that this is simply a step in ensuring the law enforcement community, the public as well as our membership that those who choose to display the IAFF license plate are truly Ohio's Professional Firefighters.
